The new intersection on Redcliffs Drive and the extended street 2720 East is a good idea and was needed. Now, however, in an effort to improve the angle through that point on Redcliffs Drive, new lines were painted and the old ones were ground out. This works just fine in the early morning and very early afternoon. But when the sun in lower in the sky the only lines that can be seen by South bound travelers are the ground out ones. The painted ones have faded out and can't be seen at all. The problem is made worse when a driver who is really watching the road stays between the new/faded lines, while the car in front or on the side follows the ground out ones. These lines cross each other sending the inside lane into the outside lane and the outside lane off past some reflectors (which also can't be seen except at night) and taking the old track of the old lines.
I am afraid that if something isn't done to improve the visibility of the new traffic lines and remove the old ones, a bad accident will happen there.
A little new paint, standing/stick down reflectors or something like that would help in the short term. Some resurfacing to make the two surfaces the same, not a new smooth black top with the older gravel resurface that was done about a year ago.
Please, someone, look at this as a "dangerous intersection" and respond responsibly in the behalf of the motoring public. Something must be done before some one gets hurt or killed.
Thank-you

Mr. Mayor;
I noticed the new paint, and it is easer to see. However drive this road form exit 10 down to the D.I. when the sun is low in the sky. The lines that can be seen arn't the newly painted ones but the old scrubbed out ones. These lines cross the new lanes and I am just waiting for an accident to happen there. Maybe an accident between a school bus and a semi truck will get some further action at this location.
I beleave that an effort was made but much more will have to be made before the problem is fixed.
Dan

I have driven this in the late afternoon and admit that there is a problem. Yes and it does need to be solved. I have asked the street department to look into putting reflectors on the insid lanes to see if this will do any good but have not heard back from them. In the mean time then just use extreem caution. Thank You

Mr. Mayor, I have noticed at several places around town the striping that is done is of so poor quality they might as well not have done it at all. I am presuming that the paint used for the roads around here is probably a "budget" paint. Can't the city invest in some higher quality paint, maybe even with a reflective substance be used. It seems that the paint that is currently being used wears off too quickly, and fades fast. Of couse this is my own opinion but I have seen stripes in other places that have stood the test of time, eliminating the need for re-striping for quite some time. A very good example of my theory is the yellow stipes that have been paintd numerous times that are on Indian Hills Dr., just as you turn off Valley View Dr. You cant even see yellow lines at the present time. I know that the never ending stream of spring water that runs down the gutter there has an effect on the paint, but there has to be a paint out there that can hold up to this water and shed it with out losing it's own luster.

manzo: I have to agree with you about the fact that the paint seems to not last as long as it should but does anything? We do not use a budget paint but the same paint that UDOT uses and other cities. It may be the lightnes of the paving material or the coursnes I'm not sure. But if you will noptice on Red Cliffs Dr at about 2600 East, just beond the Deseret Industries we are at present doing a slurry seal on the entire road as we are doing Hilton Dr. This covers up the old striping so it will not be confusing in the future and we will restrip these roads ovewr the much darker surface to see if this will make the surfaces more safe. Let's watch and see how this paint lasts over a darker surface.
