Red face D&D Chainmail

How would you D&D players out there that play chainmail feel about taking your characters, giving them minions out of the monstrous manual (any edition its all covertable) and playing a chainmail type game but you keep gaining experience. it all works out in the end like an actual campaign. post your reply

sounds like fun, but it seems like alot of work. I know AJ tried to do somthing like that, but it didn't work out very good. from what I talked to him about it, you are better off using the premade templates that come with the figs, and maybee adding a few special creatures to your warband. I don't realy see much use in gaining levals in a game that your characters die every other time you play. the only plus I would see is having better spells to use. if you come up with a solid plan, let me know and we can play test it... I know you have talked to me about this before, and I said I was willing to try, as you know My problem is finding the time to play... but we can try to work out the bugs and make it work.

Lightbulb better idea

Alright i have made a ground system for my rewrite to the idea I suggested above. Ok for fluff and for the game here's my idea. it's still kinda sketchy but bare with me. ok everybody has a wizard. they summon monsters, based on the 3rd edition monstrous manual, before the game. now the wizard has a number of command points which determine the number of minions he can control. Now to make this a little more exciting I have came up with another idea. instead of picking your monsters, you arrange them into challenge rating, (the monsters you list are determined by what kind of figs you have) and give them each a dice roll number. if you don't understand, what i'm talking about is very similar to the encounter tables in the DMG. Now for the game to start, the wizards are taken out of the perspective. they aren't used in battle as far as melee or anything goes. you use the monsters you summon for the game. ok so anyway the wizard gains x amount of experience ( to be determined). I am still coming up with xp tables. now in the battle say we both have 4 people each. I slay 3 but you end up killing all 4 of mine. I (the wizard) get experience for offing 3 of yours and you get xp for offing all for of mine. the bonus for the wizard however is a small compensation for winning since he was the one that summoned them and gave all the orders.

There is what i have so far. I am still adding so much more to it. I just add it when it hits me. look for updates on this thread ( and please by all means check the other threads to there are some really interesting) for things such as a revised character sheet for the wizard and his henchmen, encounter tables and everything like that. Theres one more thing though....

PLEASE, POST YOUR SUGGESTIONS. i'd really love to hear them so i can shape this game better so we all can use it.

J~
