Lightbulb The Lost Symbol

I just finished reading Dan Brown's latest book, The Lost Symbol. As always, he writes a fictional story containing real historical facts and legends. And, he includes a belief system in it too. This time its Freemasonry.

What I found fascinating was the way he tells the story about the "Ancient Mysteries" spoken of in Masonry, the pursuit of knowledge of it, and how he winds up the story in conclusion. I won't ruin the ending by telling it, but if you've read the book, maybe you'd like to comment.

By the way, I've read the Da Vinci Code, and seen the movie Angels and Demons too. Being the skeptic I am, I don't ascribe his work to being factual, just thought provoking.

Re: The Lost Symbol

I haven't read this book yet. I'm sure I will. I liked his other books. I didn't like the attacks on the Catholic church so much. I liked the intrique and the solving the puzzles.

Re: The Lost Symbol

I think that the religious aspect of these stories is just a vehicle for a fairly decent mystery story. Plus it lends some credibility to the story.

Just my opinion.

Dan Brown capitalizes on the secrecy of the churches and brotherhoods such as the Catholic Church, LDS, Masons, et al. The burning question is always 'what is the secret they're holding?'. That makes for a fantastic read. Mix it the mystery solving solutions and you have the perfect "can't put it down" book.

In this book, every time I encountered something I was skeptical about, I Googled the subject and sure enough, it is a fact. How DOES he do that?

It is hard to remember it is a work of fiction, as the author firmly states in the Foreword.
